Shanghai World Expo merchandise sales at 5,500 stores in China's 31 provinces and autonomous regions have topped 20 billion yuan ($3.36 billion), meeting the predetermined goal three months ahead of schedule.

Shanghai World Expo merchandise sales at the Expo Site have exceeded 400 million yuan.

With the growing popularity of the event, more and more categories of World Expo products have been developed, according to a press conference about World Expo commercial services held on 8th July. Currently, more than 360 enterprises are manufacturing 29 categories of products popular among customers.

According to Lin Shengyong, Director of the World Expo Site Commercial Management Department, all licensed stores at the World Expo Site are now reaping high profits that have exceeded expectations. Sales have reached 300 yuan ($50) per metre2 per day for most stores and 1,000 yuan ($168) per metre2 per day for a few stores. With a unit price of 50 yuan ($9), toys, badges, mobile phone straps and expensive precious metals are visitors' favorite items.

Lin said that the World Expo Commercial Management Department is now actively cooperating with law enforcement authorities to launch fiercer crackdowns on counterfeit products at the Expo Site in a bid to protect legal commercial activities and consumers' rights.
