Attraction operator, Merlin Entertainments, has appointed Paul Moreton as its new chief development officer to lead the company’s global development and creative division, Merlin Magic Making (MMM).

Moreton, who previously served as Merlin’s Creative Director, will begin his new role on 1st January 2023. He replaces Mark ‘Fish’ Fisher, who is retiring at the end of 2022 after 27 years with the company.

Moreton shared “I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead Merlin Magic Making (MMM) where our focus is on dreaming big ideas and bringing those dreams to life.

“The opportunity to work with an inspiring group of the most talented and creative people in the world is what makes Merlin Entertainments such a special and unique place.”

Moreton started working for Merlin back in 1991 when he sold balloons at Alton Towers before leading the marketing for Madame Tussauds and the London Eye.

After working in television for eight years, he returned to Merlin in 2012 in his current role as group creative director.

Moreton has more than 30 years’ experience in the attractions and TV industry. He was active in the global launch of Madame Tussauds and led the opening of the New York location.

“As brands continue to explore ways of bringing their IP to life through live events, attractions and experiences, our body of work with Lego, Sony Entertainment Pictures and Hasbro is an inspiring platform from which to build and grow,” he added.

“I’m excited to continue to be a role model”

“As a proud member of the LBGTQ+ community, I’m excited to continue to be a role model and champion of diversity and inclusion – both in Merlin and the wider industry.”

Merlin also recently appointed Scott O’Neil as its new Chief Executive with O’Neill describing Moreton as a “leader who understands the importance of creating and fostering an environment which drives diversity of thought.

“As Merlin continues our unmatched global growth trajectory, Paul’s team will marry the technology of tomorrow with the most coveted brands on the planet to bring more memorable moments to the world.”
