Myrtha Pools completes first aquatic facility installation in India
May 23, 2018

The recent opening of the Padukone - Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence in the Indian city of Bangalore has marked Myrtha Pool’s first installation on the sub-continent.

The multi sport facility is dedicated to two of Karnataka’s and India’s most revered sporting stars - Prakash Padukone, former world number one badminton player, and Rahul Dravid, one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket.

The facility includes an Olympic-sized 50 metres pool, designed to be home to top swimmers from across India as well as enhancing swimming participation as an integral part of Indian culture, enabling people to learn and enjoy swimming correctly and safely.

Set across 15-acres, the facility was created by Vivek Kumar, an entrepreneur who is deeply committed to the idea of developing sports excellence in Karnataka and India.

The centre aims to promote and build a platform for Indian youngsters - including people with disabilities - to develop their skills and excel in their field.

The campus contains a full-sized football pitch, 16 badminton courts, squash, tennis basketball courts, a cricket ground, indoor and outdoor nets, a state-of-the-art sports science centre and two pools. One is a 50 metre, 10-lane Olympic-size swimming pool built by Myrtha Pools and equipped with 20 Myrtha Track Start starting blocks.

This Myrtha pool is now home to Dolphin Aquatics, one of the oldest registered swimming clubs in Karnataka, headed by Nihar Ameen, India’s top swimming coach.

Ameen coached the Indian Olympic team for both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games as well as numerous World Championships.
