Formula E confirms Saudi Arabian start with Asian legs postponed in part schedule for 2021 race series
Formula E and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have revealed the schedule for the part of the race series' season after next month’s season opener in Saudi Arabia.
Following the night-time doubleheader at the Ad Diriyah (Riyadh Street) Circuit west of the Saudi capital of Riyadh on 26th and 27th February, which count as the first two rounds of the 2020/21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Formula E moves to races in Europe, North Africa and South America - subject to approval of the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
Races in Seoul, South Korea and at Sanya in China’s Hainan province will not take place in May as originally projected. Formula E advised that they have been postponed and a decision on these events will be confirmed with the remainder of the calendar after March.
Commenting on the calendar update, Formula E Chief Executive, Jamie Reigle stated “we are committed to delivering a global calendar that befits our first season as a World Championship.
“We are working closely with all our partners across teams, manufacturers, sponsors, broadcasters and host cities to adapt to external circumstances and ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.
“e will do so while maintaining what fans love most about Formula E - unpredictable racing, iconic locations and the blend of the real and virtual worlds, all underpinned by our race for better futures.”
Formula E said it is in constant communication with its community of teams, manufacturers, partners, broadcasters and host cities in monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 issues.
