Coldplay reveals Asian tour dates and second Optus Stadium concert as Western Australian Government issues ticket scalping warning

As a result of extraordinary demand during today’s presale for Coldplay's concert at Optus Stadium on 18th November, the band will now add a second Perth concert as part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour.

Simultaneously, the Western Australian Government is warning fans to be on high alert for ticket scalpers and scammers looking to cash in on the demand for tickets.

In addition, Coldplay have also announced that they will return to Asia with a string of dates to include their first concerts in Tokyo since 2017 as well as their first ever dates in Kaohsiung in Taiwan, Jakarta in Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Second Perth date
Coldplay's second Perth concert will take place on Sunday 19th November, a day after the first Australian-exclusive performance at Optus Stadium.

Commenting on the additional date, Luke Hede, Vice President of Touring, Live Nation Entertainment, stated “due to unprecedented demand, Coldplay will be adding a second show in Perth for their Music of the Spheres tour. It’s incredible to see that thousands of fans are keen to travel from all over the country and across Asia to see the world’s biggest band play a historic event in Western Australia.”

Western Australian Deputy Premier, Roger Cook added “the reaction to Coldplay coming to Perth as part of their Asian tour has been phenomenal.

“It’s fantastic news that there will now be two concerts because it will ensure even more people from WA get to see Coldplay’s amazing live show.

“The stars are shining again on Western Australia. This is going to be massive weekend to remember.”

Tickets for the 19th November concert will go on sale at 10am tomorrow, Tuesday 16th May.

Concerns over ticket scalpers and scammers
Amid high demand for tickets for Coldplay’s concerts, the Western Australian Government is warning fans to be on “high alert” for ticket scalpers and scammers.

Fearing that the popularity of the concerts will attract ticket scalpers and scammers looking to exploit fans, the Western Australian Government has reminded the public that is illegal for tickets to events in the state to be sold for more than 10% over the original ticket price when a resale restriction applies.

It advises “resellers must include the original ticket cost (including booking fees) and details of the section/bay, row, and seat number in any advertisements.”

Fines range from $2000 infringement notices to $20,000 for individuals or companies, including unauthorised ticket reselling platforms and classified websites publishing prohibited advertisements, if the matter goes to court.

Even higher penalties of $100,000 can apply to those using ‘bots’ to purchase bulk tickets, which is also illegal in the Western Australia.

Five $2000 infringement notices under the Western Australian Government’s ticket scalping laws have already been issued to scalpers selling inflated tickets to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC 284) event at Perth’s RAC Arena earlier this year, with illegal mark-ups ranging from 24% to 430%.

Urges the public to only buy tickets from Ticketmaster, the authorised ticket agent for this event, the Western Australian Government advised “if you miss out on tickets, it is encouraged to buy resale tickets from Ticketmaster’s Fan-to-Fan resale page to avoid potentially being scammed or purchasing scalped or fake tickets.

“Any tickets transferred or resold on Ticketmaster’s Fan-to-Fan resale page are verified by Ticketmaster and re-issued in the buyer’s name.

“It is recommended to avoid buying tickets from unauthorised ticket reselling platforms and classified websites like Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace.

“There is a risk that ticket holders will be turned away at the door if the ticket is invalid or fake, and could potentially be left out of pocket.”

Nonetheless, as of today tickets are already being sold by resale site Viagogo.

Asian dates
It has also been announced that as part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour, Coldplay will play at the 55,000-capacity Tokyo Dome on 6th and 7th November, the 55,000-capacity Kaohsiung National Stadium on 11th November and Jakarta’s 77,000-capacity Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on 15th November.

After dates in Perth, the band will then finish up at Kuala Lumpur’s 85,000-capacity National Stadium Bukit Jalil on 22nd November.
