Chengdu Polar Ocean World Opens to Public
September 9, 2010

After four years of construction, Chengdu Polar Ocean World has opened to visitors - the opening coinciding with the municipal government of Chengdu's Cool City Tourism Festival.

Filling a gap in the city's attractions market, Chengdu Polar Ocean World is the first attraction of its type in south west China and features a wide variety of polar animals, marine life and marine habitat exhibits. It also features performances, science education programs, group tours, recreational events, shopping and entertainment opportunities.

The park measures an area of 240,000 metres2 and can accommodate up to three million visitors a year.

There are five major sections in the park: the Polar Animal Exhibit; a Performance Hall for Dolphins and Whales; a theatre; Marine Animals Exhibits; and the 'Tropical Island' recreation area. Each of the theme park's sections are surrounded by different exhibit halls featuring a variety of undersea animal life.

The park has employed state-of-the-art technology to manufacture man-made snow, man-made sea water, and man-made habitats to help bring over 100 polar region animals including the white whale, polar bear, penguin, dolphin, and walrus to inland residents in Chengdu.
