World Athletics extends with track partnership with Mondo to 2029
World Athletics has announced an extension of its long-standing partnership with track and field surfaces provider Mondo.
The new five-year deal will see Mondo retain its position as an official supplier of World Athletics - a partnership that commenced in 1987.
Mondo’s partnership will see the Italy-based company actively involved in all World Athletics Series stadium events from 2025 to 2029 including next year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, as well as the 2027 event in Beijing and the 2029 edition, which hosting rights have not yet been assigned for.
The agreement also covers the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the 2025 and 2028 World Indoor Championships. Other events included in the sponsorship are the World Athletics Relays and the World Athletics U20 Championships.
Announcing what he called an “important chapter in the evolution of athletics”, World Athletics President, Sebastian Coe stated “Mondo’s consistent commitment to excellence and their creative approach have made them a reliable partner for our sport. Their participation in the World Athletics Sustainability Strategy matches the high standards we demand from our partners.
Maurizio Stroppiana, Vice-President of Sport at Mondo, added “this strategic position enables us to support the growth of track and field, connect with the worldwide athletics community, collaborate with member federations, and guarantee the best quality, durability, and safety in all events where our products are used to celebrate the achievements of all the athletes.”
Mondo provided the purple athletics track used at the Stade de France during the recent Olympic Games in Paris and which is currently in use for the 2024 Paralympics’
The Olympic track is traditionally red or blue, and the new colour was decided in collaboration with World Athletics and Olympic Broadcasting Services. Paris 2024 was the first competition to be held on a track of that shade of purple.
Two shades of purple were used for the track. A lighter one was used for the track and competition areas, and a darker one was used for the technical areas. A complementary grey colour was chosen for the outside of the bends in a nod to the asphalt track used during the 1924 Games in Paris.
