Wattbike installed to boost elite performance at Singapore Sports Institute
The Singapore Sports Institute has installed Wattbike to elevate their Team Singapore elite athletes to the next level of performance.
Recognising that embracing innovation is a critical component to stay ahead of the curve in the face of an ever-evolving and competitive sporting environment, the Singapore Sports Institute (SSI) looked to the UCI World Cycling Centre, who had been using Wattbike to establish a world class benchmark for athletes around the world.
The Wattbike’s Performance Computer enables the accurate measurement of over 40 performance parameters. Combined with a fully customisable ride setup and the feel of riding a real bike, it provides the user with a highly effective and efficient power-based training solution.
SSI is a world-renowned centre of excellence where Team Singapore elite athletes receive the best there is to offer in coaching, fitness performance tracking and support.
In addition to the 14 Wattbike Pro bikes, the pioneer of performance indoor cycling, the institution recently installed the latest innovation from Wattbike, the Wattbike Nucleus, an evolution of the Wattbike Pro/Trainer, created to elevate the user experience with the all new Performance Touchscreen, the high-definition display delivers the most advanced performance feedback for a fully connected user experience.
Adrian Ng, Head Coach, Singapore Cycling explains “we recognised the benefits of the Wattbike immediately. The accuracy and measurability of data along with the technological advancements made it second to none.
“We saw Wattbike as a fantastic opportunity for us to bridge the gap in terms of benchmarking physiological aspects alongside power profiling and testing our athletes on a quarterly basis in order to review our daily training programmes.”
Since installing, the use of the Wattbikes at the SSI has evolved to meet a range of services that the institute now delivers. As well as being a centre where elite athletes can train, thanks to the world-class training equipment on offer, the institute has become a venue for talent identification and exists as a leading performance assessment center.
Ng adds “The Wattbike has become an essential part of our process. It acts as our primary method for many of our tests for the athletes including the customised critical power test, our quarterly functional threshold power tests and the CP test which we use to establish baseline fitness. I don’t know where we would be without it.”
Gary Mason, Wattbike Business Development Manager, Asia Pacific notes “Wattbike was founded on being the world's most accurate, reliable and measurable cycling ergometer. This, combined with our unique resistance system offers the complete off feet training tool. We have a history steeped in elite sport and are driven to continually innovate in order to enhance elite performance and push athletic boundaries.
“All of this has only been possible thanks to the hard work of our local distributor, Hai Yong, Director at Eco Lifestyle. Hai has opened up many opportunities for Wattbike across the region and has nurtured the fantastic partnership with The Singapore Sports Institute into what it is today, a successful partnership whereby the sharing of knowledge, best practice and innovation is continually elevating elite athletes to the next level of performance.”
Today, the Wattbike is used by the world’s top cycling federations including Great Britain, Australia, United States and France, in addition to professional teams and elite athletes in all cycling and triathlon disciplines. Other sports have also adopted the Wattbike as a cross-training tool and is used by many Premiership football clubs, Premiership Rugby, Rugby Football Union, Rugby Football League, Formula One drivers, England Hockey, GB Rowing, British Sailing, English Institute of Sport and UK Sport.
