January 8, 2022

Universal Beijing Resort in China is to embark on the second phase of its development with a 22 hectare area of land being added to its footprint that will include up to five new hotels.

Already featuring seven themed lands and a total of 37 rides and attractions, the expansion will double the Resort in size.

The pre-Christmas announcement comes less than three months after the park opened its gates to guests.

Speaking at a press briefing on the expansion, Beijing Municipal Government official Cui Shuqiang the expansion will eventually welcome up to 10 million annual visitors.

The fifth Universal Studios-branded theme park in the world - and the seventh Universal-built park overall the park has seven themed lands - The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Transformers Metrobase, Kung Fu Panda Land, Hollywood, WaterWorld, Minion Land and Jurassic World Isla Nubar.

Universal Beijing Resort is owned by Beijing International Resort Company, a joint venture between Beijing Shouhuan Cultural Tourism Investment Company and Universal Parks & Resorts, a business unit of Comcast NBC Universal.

In a related development, Universal Beijing President Tom Mehrmann is taking on a newly created role as President of Pacific Rim at Universal Parks & Resorts. In this role he will continue to oversee Universal Beijing, as well as Universal’s parks in Hollywood and Japan.
