Thanyapura Phuket has been named Asia's Leading Sports Resort at the 22nd annual World Travel Awards, presented in Hong Kong at the end of October.

The World Travel Awards, renowned as the most prestigious and comprehensive in the tourism industry are acknowledged as the 'ultimate hallmark of quality' and the 'benchmark to which all others aspire'.

In handing Thanyapura the Gold Winner's Shield, World Travel Awards President and Founder Graham E Cooke said the gong recognised the venue's 'commitment to excellence'.

Cooke explained “using the Gold Winner's Shield will show customers you continually endeavour to improve products and services.”

Hundreds of thousands of industryprofessionals and high-end tourism consumers vote in the World Travel Awards.

Being named Asia's Leading Sports Resort is another highlight for a venue that attracts some of the world's best athletes to use its state-of-the-art facilities, while also catering to amateur enthusiasts looking to improve their performance and people who want to feel and look better by tapping Thanyapura's patented body, mind and soul approach to health and fitness.

Acknowledging receipt of the Award, Philipp Graf von Hardenberg, Thanyapura President and Chief Executive stated “this is a great honour and the ultimate validation of the industry-leading health and fitness model we've established.

"We set very high standards every day and receiving a world travel award makes us very proud.

“We truly appreciate that our commitment to our guests, athletes and patients is recognised.

"But glory is fleeting so this price makes us want to work harder so that we continue to raise the bar and maintain our position as Asia's leading sports training, education and active healthy lifestyle destination."

World swimming's governing body, FINA, recently chose Thanyapura for its ‘Targeting Rio 2016’ project – a partnership in which 26 Southeast Asian scholarship-holders are living and training at the facility ahead of competing at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

It is also known for its triathlon training with programs led by four-time World Champion and Executive Chairman Chris 'Macca' McCormack.

Thanyapura is set on 23 pristine hectares beside a national park close to Phuket International Airport and the destination's famed beaches but cocooned in a serene setting. It utilises international-standard coaches, sports scientists, medical and health practitioners, physiotherapists and chiropractors.
