Skyline Enterprises partners with Gamuda Land to deliver Malaysia’s first luge attraction
June 6, 2022

Queenstown-based leisure and entertainment operator Skyline Enterprises has partnered with Gamuda Land to deliver the first luge activity park in Malaysia at Gamuda Gardens in Rawang, Selangor – set to open by the end of 2023.

The Luge will be part of the 20.2hectare Gamuda Gardens City Centre - master-planned as an integrated retail, leisure and commerce park.

Skyline Luge is a fun-filled adventure activity suitable for riders of all ages and experience levels. Invented in New Zealand over 35 years ago, Skyline Luge has spread to seven international locations and hosted more than 50 million rides worldwide.

Skyline Enterprises will invest NZ$26 million into the project which will comprise Skyline Luge, Skyline Skyride and Skyline Ziplines.

The Skyline Luge Park in Rawang, Selangor, is designed to work within the local terrain and will deliver an exciting ride from the top of a 40 metre elevated hill.

Built on a 30,000 square metre site, the luge activity park will be Skyline Enterprises fourth park in Asia with the others located in Singapore as well as Busan and Tong Yeong in South Korea. The park will feature the world’s first multi-cornered zipline and the country’s first-ever ski lift ride.

The Skyline Luge experience runs on a 600 metre purpose-built track with themed landscaping along the route. While Skyline Skyride offers visitors a bird’s eye view of Gamuda Gardens and landscape, Skyline Ziplines will soar over the multi-cornered luge tracks.

A ground-breaking ceremony was held to mark the beginning of the park’s construction.

Gamuda Land chief operating officer Chu Wai Lune noted “by harnessing the group’s expertise in town-making and through collaboration with partners such as Skyline Enterprises for community place-making, the group is able to create sustainable developments which can cater to the needs and wants of people, especially ones that are surrounded by nature with ample public spaces for the community.”

Also present was Skyline Enterprises Chief Executive Geoff McDonald who added “The Skyline Luge Park in Gamuda Gardens will bring a different and exciting experience. It is designed to work with the local terrain and deliver an exciting ride from the top of the 40m elevated hill.”

Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) investment, promotion and facilitation Deputy Chief Executive Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja said Mida would continue to facilitate and support Skyline Enterprise’s project implementation and future expansion.

Others present at the launch were Gamuda Land chief executive officer Ngan Chee Meng, Skyline Luge Kuala Lumpur Malaysian director Datuk Aria Yogesvaran, New Zealand High Commissioner Pam Dunn and New Zealand Trade Commissioner Catherine Rusby.

The Gamuda Gardens City Centre is designed with an interconnected inner courtyard space and surrounded by office buildings, residence towers and a one-million-square-feet regional “retail-tainment” mall anchored by the Luge Activity Park and Play Park, the masterplan emphasises bicycles over cars, with dedicated tree-lined, car-free, cyclist and pedestrian linear boulevards to encourage greener mobility.
