Reports indicate reopening of theme parks and museums in China
March 20, 2020

With Chinese authorities reporting no new cases of Coronavirus over recent weeks, and businesses starting to resume operations, theme parks and museums are reopening across the country.

Shanghai Disney Resort has already partially reopened, while Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park which closed to the public on 24th January as part of China’s safety measures will be reopening today (20th March).

The reopening of Haichang Ocean Park will not be without restrictions, with visitor numbers under half of its daily capacity, while indoor areas will be kept under 30% percent capacity. Staff and patrons will be subject to having their temperatures checking while only cashless payments will be accepted.

Guided tours, group tours and penguin shows will also be suspended, the restaurant will remain closed, and visitors will be reminded to keep a distance of at least 1.5 metres from each other.

Shanghai Disney Resort’s reopening on 9th March did not include the Shanghai Disneyland theme park shopping, dining, and recreational experiences are limited.

The move marked “the first step of a phased reopening” in China, according to Disney.

Other reopenings include the Shanghai Museum, Shanghai History Museum, and China Art Museum.

While Chinese attractions reopen, theme parks across the rest of Asia, Europe and North America remain closed.

In Australasia, Rainbows’ End in Auckland and Luna Park Sydney have closed this week.
