Regupol highlights testing results that confirm its products guarantee 50 years of vibration isolation
January 24, 2021

Leading global flooring company Regupol has shared results of recent testing of its vibration isolation products that showed they remain effective for more than 50 years.

This testing, conducted by the independent laboratory at Germany’s Karlsruher Institute of Technology, included the entire range of Regupol products with varying load capacities - used to ‘float’ a building on its foundation, so that unwanted noise and vibration stemming from nearby train tracks, subways or mechanical equipment does not affect the building and its occupants, especially in dense urban environments.

The results show that Regupol and Regufoam vibration isolation products routinely outperform the minimum sound isolation requirements of most projects, with Regupol the first manufacturer worldwide to achieve this level of testing and resilience.

The Karlsruher Institute tested a total of 10 Regupol and 12 Regufoam products and found they withstand wear and tear in diverse climate zones for 50 years or more. Regupol’s stringent European testing leads the world at an elite level of acoustic and vibration isolation and encourages standardisaation and accountability of similar products on the global market.

Advising that the product testing is particularly relevant considering today’s trends in urban densification, Regupol’s Sales Director - Acoustics Division, Steffen Blecher advised “developers have one chance to eliminate structure-borne vibration at the outset of a project. It is quite literally the foundation of a building’s success and longevity.

“Urban planners and developers can confidently invest in real estate that was previously thought of as unfit for building when they rely on the quality of Regupol products.”

The Regupol vibration range is composed of a high-performance elastomer made of rubber fibres, granules and polyurethane.

Noise and Vibration in Gyms
For gym locations, Regupol advise that “a detailed review of the relevant government, council and strata laws … need to be considered to determine how much impact noise is considered appropriate for your building. Failing to do so can be a costly exercise and can result in costly disputes with neighbours and authorities.

Taking the time to research and test your particular building will ensure that the most appropriate solution is found. Reducing any disruptions made with your gym fit-out and ensuring a happy and safe environment for all.

Acoustic Disturbance From Gyms
The  company also notes that the “dropping of free weights or other hard and/or heavy objects onto the floor are activities most likely to generate acoustic disturbance. Pin and plate loaded equipment produces similar disturbances, of slightly lesser magnitude. Weightlifting platforms and associated dropping of loaded bars onto these platforms, typically causes the highest level of acoustic disturbance from gyms.
