Merlin Entertainments advises of moves to implement green energy strategy
December 11, 2024

Merlin Entertainments has advised of what it calls a “groundbreaking year” of achievements in sustainability through its Green Energy Capex program.

Demonstrating Merlin’s More to Your World ESG strategy in action, while also reflecting the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship, energy efficiency and global sustainability goals, in 2024, the attractions operator invested £2 million into a total of 50 projects, delivering annual energy savings of 3,924 MWh.

It advises that these projects reflect Merlin’s strategic focus on long-term energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and creating economic benefits for local businesses and communities.

Key initiatives from the 2024 Green Energy Capex program include:

SEA LIFE Charlotte-Concord, USA: Installation of a new pump system, improving energy efficiency and reducing noise levels, creating a quieter, more comfortable environment for the marine animals.

LEGOLAND® Korea: Adoption of on-site solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, contributing to renewable energy generation and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.

Gardaland Resort, Italy: Comprehensive upgrades to LED lighting systems, delivering substantial energy savings while enhancing the visitor experience with modern, sustainable, lighting solutions.

Dare Ilori, Group Sustainability Director at Merlin Entertainments, advised “the progress we have made this year demonstrates Merlin’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a more sustainable future. From solar panels in Korea to quieter systems for marine life in North America, every project reflects our passion for innovation and care for the planet.

“We’re proud of the strides we’ve made and excited to continue creating positive change through our attractions worldwide in 2025 and beyond.”
