Leisure innovations key to Singapore’s redeveloped Funan shopping mall
June 28, 2019

After a three-year redevelopment, Singapore's Funan shopping mall has today reopened, featuring more than 180 stores, including new-to-market brands, new concept retail spaces and a range of innovative leisure offerings including an urban farm.

Located between Fort Canning and Marina Bay in Singapore's downtown, the mall has been rebuilt at a cost of S$560 million (US$440 million).

The mall is home to Golden Village’s latest seven-screen multiplex, featuring new Deluxe Plus and Gold Class Express seating, as well as Virtual Reality pods and a new theatre and studio space that will be home to local theatre group Wild Rice.

In addition, it also offers a range of active recreation and fitness features including a 200 metre indoor cycling path that runs in and around the complex, an artificial grass futsal court and Climb Central, an indoor rock climbing gym which has the Civic district's highest climbing facility.

True Group's new TFX fitness club
Singapore’s homegrown fitness brand, True Group, has also opened its first TFX fitness centre, that features a swimming pool and outdoor deck.

Located over two levels, the 1394 metre² TFX Funan is the first gym in Singapore to house the Matrix Strength Ultra Series which comes with Intelligent Video Training Display for resistance training. It is also home to Life Fitness IC6 spinning bikes, a Naomi training cube, Concept 2’s Bike and Ski ERGs and rowers, functional training equipment from Ziva and Torque, and Rogue’s barbells and a Monster Rhino Belt Squat.

Members will also be able to use My Zone wireless and cloud technology to monitor their physical activity.

True Group has created TFX to deliver curated innovative programs in which members can track and achieve results through technology. With a focus on innovation, technology-enabled training and a consumer-centric perspective, TFX’s programmes will build on a 4-Quadrant Fitness Program model encompassing metabolic, strength, restoration and variability conditioning to help members achieve fitness sustainability.

Introducing the news concept, True Group Director, Sean Tan stated “True Group’s new management are fitness enthusiasts who understand fitness from the user’s perspective. We are always on the gym floor working out, interacting with members, and trying out the equipment. The concept of fitness sustainability is at the core of TFX; that is why TFX clubs will not only feature the best-in-class equipment from a variety of brands, but also science-based programming and workouts that are regularly updated to keep interest piqued and results coming.

“TFX will cater to those looking out for the latest in fitness trends as we launch our unique 'club-within-a-club' concept, where we will set aside areas in our clubs to test-bed new fitness concepts.

"Think of it like having curated boutique fitness concepts as 'pop-ups' within our gyms."

True Group is also on track to open new TFX facilities at Pacific Plaza next month, and a new club at Millenia Walk in September 2019.
