Legoland Korea set for 5th May opening

Merlin Entertainments has confirmed that the Legoland Korea Resort, the world’s 10th Legoland attraction, is on track to open on 5th May - Korea’s Children’s Day.

With work on the resort completed, the opening announcement was made at a commemorative ceremony attended by John Jakobsen, Chief Operating Officer for the Legoland Resorts Group, Gangwon Province Governor Choi Moon-soon, and Chuncheon City Mayor Lee Jaesoo.

Introducing the venue, Merlin Entertainments Chief Executive, Nick Varney advised “as we gear up towards the official grand opening of Legoland Korea Resort, it brings me immense joy to host today’s key handover ceremony and to meet in person everyone who has helped us in this endeavour as well as share our hopes and expectations for the future.

Located near the city of Chuncheon, the capital of Gangwon Province, the new resort is built on the island of Jungdo-Dong at the confluence of the he Soyang and Han Rivers.

Spread across 2.8 hectares, it includes a Legoland park with 40 rides and attractions and the 154-room Legoland Hotel.

The theme park is home to seven themed areas, which are Brick Street, Bricktopia, Lego Castle, Lego Ninjago World, Pirates Shore, Lego City and Miniland. Rides and attractions include the Dragon Coaster and Driving School.

Beyond the Legoland Korea Resort, Merlin is developing three Legoland attractions in China – Legoland Shanghai Resort, Legoland Sichuan Resort and the world’s largest Legoland resort in Shenzhen. It has also has plans for a new Legoland in the Fangshan district of Beijing.
