February 25, 2020

With attendances at Indian amusement and theme parks having grown to attract more than 30 million annual visits, the sector will be marking its achievements over the next three days at the Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries’ 2020 Amusement Expo.

Being staged at the Bombay Exhibition Centre and backed by the Indian Ministry of Tourism, the 20th edition of the exhibition will be inaugurated by International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Chair, Amanda Thompson who is also the Managing Director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach and IAAPI President, Sohan Sinh Jadeja.

Bringing together a comprehensive range of products and services offered by the industry over a 7,430 metre² exhibition space, the Expo will feature more than 175 exhibitors from 20 countries, showcasing the latest trends and developments in the industry.

Commenting on the growth of the industry, Sohan stated “in today’s era amusement parks are not just about rides and fun games but have evolved as a tourist destination from rides, exhibits, F&B options, retail outlet and quality accommodation.

“India has over 160 plus amusement parks and the future growth of the sector (is) going to be away from the city limits along with resorts and hotels.”

Breaking down the 30 million annual visits, half are by children and youth in school groups or with families, while adults visiting with their families or in corporate groups constitute the remaining 50%.

Founded in 1999, IAAPI is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organisation, playing a proactive role in development of this sector.

Its 445 members from the private sector include small and medium enterprises consisting of park operators and equipment manufacturers.

The 2020 IAAPI Amusement Expo runs from 26th to 28th February.
