Gold Coast Marathon virtual event receives significant support from keen participants
June 29, 2020

Events Management Queensland, organisers of  The Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Virtual Marathon, are pleased with the outstanding support the event is attracting - from those keen to participate in the 2km events right through to the flagship 42km marathon distance.

The event  which starts on 1st July and runs through to 31st July, also includes the opportunity to run multiple distances over the month of July with 10 Gold Coast themed bundles including the Broadbeach Double, Surfers Paradise Trio, and the Gold Coast Big Four.

The annual Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon usually attracts over 25,000 runners to the City each year. With the COVID19 forced cancellation of this year’s event, organisers Events Management Queensland have created the range of running events this year to provide its global running community the opportunity to still participate in Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon experience.

The events cater for runners, walkers and wheelchair participants with people asked to complete their events while adhering to the relevant COVID Safe regulations, then log their results on a dedicate web based platform.

Events Management Queensland Chief Executive, Cameron Hart says the support for the virtual event has been outstanding and notes “with the forced cancellation of this year’s real running event, we were determined to provide our disappointed stakeholders with a highly valued Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon experience via a virtual running program.

“Our unique offerings of individual distances along with Gold Coast themed distance bundles have been a huge hit with runners from across the globe.”

Hart highlights that the interest in the virtual events has been better than expected and adds “with two days until people can start their runs, we already have over 6,500 entries into 14,000 runs with this number to continue to grow throughout July.

“We have runners, walkers and wheelchair entrants from over 55 countries signed up and ready to share their Gold Coast running experience online. The high level of engagement and storytelling will be a fantastic promotion for the 2021 Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon next July when we return to present the Gold Coast’s greatest mass participation sports event and start rebuilding the Gold Coast’s valuable Sports Tourism Industry.

Participants can download a personalised race bib to wear during their run and share their run via social media. After registering their results, they can then download a personalised results certificate to share with family and friends online.

Details of the virtual events on offer and entry details can be found online via goldcoastmarathon.com.au with entry open until 31st July.
