Building work commences on Seoul’s K-pop arena

South Korean technology company Kakao Corp. has advised that it has broken ground on the building of Seoul's first K-pop-destined performance hall.

First announced in 2022 when Kakao signed an agreement with Seoul’s Metropolitan Government to invest in a new music arena in the northern district of Dobong, the commencement of construction of the new venue, named the Seoul Arena, had experienced a number cost-related delays.

As reported this week by the Yonyap news agency, Kakao Corp. advise that the new venue, the first and biggest performance arena tailored for K-pop, will have a capacity to accommodate up to 28,000 people, will open as of March 2027.

Kakao said the new facility will support high-quality performances, helping the K-pop industry strengthen its status in the global market.

Additionally, Kakao plans to construct a cultural complex connected to the Seoul Arena, including a mid-sized concert hall and cinema.
