Advanced Aquarium Technologies wins in three categories at 2021 Sunshine Coast Business Awards
November 17, 2021

Advanced Aquarium Technologies (AAT), the Australian-based world leader in the highly specialised business of designing, building and operating landmark public aquariums, has dominated the 2021 Sunshine Coast Business Awards, securing wins in three categories.

Presented on Saturday night, the Kunda Park business was named winner in the Building and Construction (Large Business) Category, winner in the Export Category and took out the 2021 Business of the Year award, the program’s top award.

The awards were presented at a gala event at the Sunshine Coast Convention Centre at Twin Waters, with AAT the dominant business among the night’s winners.

Over two decades, AAT - which also has operations in the Philippines, China and USA (opened this year) - has delivered aquarium design and construction projects in over 25 countries including Den Blå Planet (the national aquarium of Denmark); the Oman Aquarium in Muscat; the Cube Oceanarium in Chengdu, China and the Grand Aquarium at Hong Kong Ocean Park.

AAT also creates bespoke feature aquariums for major commercial buildings and public spaces, such as the two-storey aquarium within the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne; the Heart of the Reef aquarium in the departure lounge at the Whitsunday Airport; a graceful moon jellyfish aquarium in the lobby of the prestigious Wynn Resort in Macau and a cylindrical aquarium at the James Cook University campus building in Townsville.

Thrilled at the recognition, John Langmead, AAT’s founder and Chief Executive, commented “we are extremely grateful and honoured to receive this recognition. AAT is living proof that you can build, grow and operate a complex international business from Australia’s Sunshine Coast. We feel doubly blessed to have such a great business and headquartered in this spectacular region.”

Accepting the award on AAT’s behalf, Tim Eldridge, AAT’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Marketing paid tribute to the company’s employees, stating “every winning business at the Sunshine Coast Business Awards has one thing in common - their success would not be possible without the skill, passion and support of their employees, now more than ever.

“We dedicate our 2021 awards to our wonderful team both here in Australia and all around the world.”

850 guests gathered for the gala event, which received over 200 entries, shortlisted to 131 finalists in 29 categories by 27 judges.

The event is managed by the Sunshine Coast Chamber Alliance and supported by a wide range of notable partners and sponsors, including Queensland electricity provider LPE (naming partner) and the Sunshine Coast Council (Platinum Sponsor).

The Sunshine Coast Business Awards are the region’s most prestigious and longest established business awards and have been celebrating business success since 1995.

Earlier this year, AAT was also a finalist in two categories at the Queensland Premier’s Export Awards.
